Warranty, manuals and advice on choosing and using your machine. The Granhult importer and warranty handler in Finland is Tuontitukku FI Oy.

Warranty

24 months, including professional use

Granhult welders and plasma cutters carry a 24-month warranty from the date of purchase, including professional and commercial use. It covers manufacturing and material defects. Consumables such as nozzles, electrodes, swirl rings and torch cups are not covered.

Keep your receipt. For warranty claims contact Tuontitukku customer service with the model, purchase date and a description of the fault.

FAQ

Questions and answers

What does duty cycle mean?

Duty cycle (X) is how many minutes of a 10-minute period the machine can weld at the stated current in a 40 °C environment before the thermal cut-out trips. 250 A @ 60 % means 6 minutes of welding and 4 minutes of cooling. At lower current the machine runs longer, and many machines also state a 100 % current at which they weld without a break.

Should I choose a 230 V or a 400 V machine?

A 230 V machine runs from a standard socket and goes wherever three-phase is not available. A 400 V machine draws the same power from three phases, so the current per phase is lower, fuses trip less easily and the machine sustains higher currents for longer. If the workplace has a 16 A three-phase socket, a 400 V model is usually the better choice.

What do AC balance and AC frequency do on aluminium?

Aluminium has an oxide layer that melts at a far higher temperature than the metal itself. AC balance splits each cycle into a cleaning part (electrode positive) and a penetrating part (electrode negative): more cleaning removes oxide, more penetration gives a deeper weld and spares the tungsten. AC frequency sets arc width. A higher frequency (e.g. 120–200 Hz) narrows and stiffens the arc for fillet welds; a lower one (60–80 Hz) widens it for a broader bead.

When do I need water cooling?

A gas-cooled TIG torch is fine for short welds and up to about 150–180 A. For long seams or currents above 180 A, a water-cooled torch with the ICE cooling unit keeps the handle cool and extends consumable life. The SuperTIG 315EX and PowerMaster 256 ship with a water-cooling-ready torch.

Can I run a Granhult machine from a generator?

Inverter machines run on a generator that produces clean power (total harmonic distortion below 5 %) and has enough capacity for the machine's inrush current. Size the generator from the I1max figure with headroom above it. Connect the welder only once the generator is running at steady speed.

Why does a plasma cutter need dry air?

Moisture and oil in the air wear the electrode and nozzle quickly and leave a rough edge. Use the supplied water separator, and for heavy plate an additional in-line air dryer. Check the correct pressure and flow in the technical data, e.g. PL80D: 6.5 bar and 250 l/min. The Air models with a built-in compressor need no external air.

What do I need to start TIG welding?

Besides the machine and torch you need an argon cylinder with regulator, tungsten electrodes (e.g. 1.6 and 2.4 mm; lanthanated works for both AC and DC), filler rod to suit the material, plus an auto-darkening helmet and gloves. A foot pedal makes current control easier, especially on aluminium.
